School Year Voice Lessons

The very best in voice lessons are available to 8 years through Adult, in two different facilities, Neighborhood Academy of Music in Clayton and Sharon Baptist Music Academy in West Smithfield. Students are given performance opportunities throughout the year which  end with a Recital in late May, early June.

National Federation of Music Affiliated

Students who desire, may participate in annual NFMC Festivals, Honors Recitals, Gold Cup auditions, scholarships, and many community service opportunities.

Summer Opportunities

Beginner Voice Camps, Musical Theatre Camps, Summer Intensive Classes, and summer Voice Lesson mini semesters provide continuing opportunities to explore vocal talents, and learn new techniques.

Voice lesson information

What Happens in a Voice lesson?

Proper posture, breathing technique, vocal strength and placement, and learning how to project your best sound are all focused on throughout the lesson time. Presentation and poise are also considered as lessons proceed. In addition, all students will receive information on vocal awareness and vocal health to maintain good habits in singing and protecting the vocal mechanism. Basic music theory is included as a part of lessons periodically and can have a stronger focus if parent/student desires. Students who are interested in pursuing musical theatre auditions will be encouraged to prepared an audition book.

What Performances are available?

All students prepare vocal selections for presentation at area Christmas Tree Lightings, the Festival of Trees in Smithfield, the Clayton Senior Center, and The Flipside in December, the Johnston County Music Association Festival in February, and Recital in May/June. Other singing opportunities are also considered. The February Festival Auditions are conducted as a part of the National Federation of Music Clubs Festivals. High School students are also encouraged to compete in the Vocal Arts competition for the Clayton Women's Club in January.


Neighborhood Academy of Music Voice Lesson Cost

Neighborhood Academy of Music is located at 112 Butternut Lane, Clayton, NC 27520.


At Neighborhood Academy of Music students will pay $24.00 per 30 minute lesson, $36.00 per 45 minute lesson and $48.00 per one hour lesson. 


Neighborhood Academy of Music requires a $25.00 registration fee due yearly. When you pay in the fall it covers until the following fall. If you begin lessons in January you pay a pro-rated amount for registration. You may pay the next year's registration fee to secure your fall lesson beginning in late spring.

Sharon Baptist Church Music Academy Voice Lessons Cost

Sharon Baptist Church is located in west Smithfield at 116 Britt Street, Smithfield, NC 27577. 


At Sharon Baptist Music Academy individual lessons are $22.00 per 30 minute lesson, $33.00 per 45 minute lesson, and $44.00 per one hour lesson. Only advanced students are recommended to take a 45 minute or one hour lesson regularly.

School Year Equal Payments and Payment Policies

Payments are made in monthly amounts over the school-year and by the lesson or mini semester during the summer. Payments are due the first lesson of the month and late after the 10th of each month. 


If you are one month or more late a late fee will be applied of $10.00 per month.

Minimum Commitments and Makeups

A minimum of one month of lessons is requested for new students and a minimum two week notice is preferred if you have to stop. 


Make up lessons will be offered when time is available. If you must cancel a lesson, please try to give 24 hours notice to more likely schedule a makeup. Missed lessons due to teacher illness or weather emergencies will be scheduled with Julie Stewart on an individual basis. Emergencies will be considered on a case by case basis.
